April Scandals

What is the implication in the cartoon?  What other things have made national news that aren't necessarily scandals but still negative?  Weigh in with an intelligent opinion.   How will these scandals and other news items affect the presidential race this fall?  DUE 5/3

Where to start on this one, guess Ill try to inform you a bit on the subjects.

The secret service scandal, happened in Brazil. These secret service men got caught and therefore in trouble by wanting prostitutes in the area for sexual pleasure. Now I'm quite positive that this is not the first time the secret service has gotten away with this type of illegal arrangement, the only reason you are hearing about this one is because the media got to it and found it to be quite a good story to cover and then exploit as they desire. This is however not an overly alarming big deal. Yes they work for the United States government and protect the president, and yes this wasn't the best decisions made by them, but its the secret service. They have massive egos.

The G.S.A scandal is more of a political nature. The past years have been very fast and with that the high political machines have meetings, and by meetings, I mean high quality shouldn't be having this type of all paid for resort and spa but do any way get away. Mouthful as it is, its true. They are trying to get a MAX limit on how much they can spend on one meeting. They have agreed on $500,000. That's a lot of money, but giving the fact they spent $823,000 in October of 2010 in Las Vegas something needs to change. And back to the secret service scandal for a second, you're trying to tell me that they had a meeting in Vegas, for about $800,000, and no one thought maybe they did the SAME thing there? Only and oblivious incompetent buffoon would believe that.

Now moving on. The two tornadoes signify destruction and chaos around the white house. Implying that the president is under not physical, but political destruction at home. Making Obama's run significantly harder for the upcoming election. This is bad for the democrats given the fact that the entire part, I believe is dependent currently on him.

I haven't herd of any scandals. I suppose Nancy grace talking about the missing little girl, and attacking her mother about not speaking out in public therefore not caring for her daughter is very negative. She should have the right to say it, but she should have the decency to not put her face where it doesn't belong.

  2. This cartoon implies that President Barack Obama is under a lot of fire from all these things going on around him and it will affect the upcoming Presidential elections. Obama has put himself into a little bit of a hole with the decisions that he has made while in office. We have many that agree with many decisions that he has made but then again we have many that do not agree with many of the decisions he has made.

These scandals mentioned in this cartoon shouldn't affect the elections in a "racial" way though. These things that have happened with the secret service and meetings that cost a good amount of money don't affect the elections in a "racial" way, once again. It will affect how people view these guys though. As far as other scandals go though, I have not heard of any other scandals that will affect the elections.

  3. The implications of this cartoon is that the White House is caught up in two tornadoes of scandal and chaos that have seriously damaged the White Houses's reputation and that all they want is for things to return to normal from before these scandals came to light. The two scandals are the Secret Service Scandal, where members of the Secret Service were accused of hiring prostitutes in Colombia. These agents are being dealt with, but there is still fury that they had the gall to participate in activities illegal within the U.S. The second scandal is how taxpayer money was spent by the General Services Agency (GSA) to basically have a party in Las Vegas.

Any bad publicity for the government at this point in time is likely to harm Obama's chance of reelection. The more corruption shown in today's government, the less confidence people will have in those in charge. If no one trusts how Obama is handling our country's government, it is unlikely that he would be reelected.

I don't believe that this will hurt Obama's reelection campaign too severely, however. Obama is a gifted speaker and will most likely be able to deflect the negative publicity. This, coupled with society's short term memory as a collective, will work in Obama's favor.

I am unaware of any other negative national news that would effect the 2012 presidential race.

  4. The implifications of this cartoon stand out quite boldly, the tornados represent the chaos that is at both ends of the white house. There is never a calm day when it comes to politics. These are here to show the scandad of the secret service where some men hired some prostitutes for obviously sexual pleasure, while the other scandal being the GAS where they blew $800,000 in Vegas.

Lately the Isabel Celis case has made national news, and it is'nt necessarily a scandal because of the fact that it is a kidnapping and not an issue that is on the same level as the Secret Service in South America. Overall the sugnifigance of the Isabel Celis case will not affect the outcome of this years presidential elections, nor do any things that will come to mind.

  5. The White House is surrounded with a whirlwind of chaos.
Left and right, the administration is being scrutinized and magnified. Making big headlines recently, the Secret Service, stationed in Brazil at the time, was caught asking for prostitutes to fulfill their needs while on duty. It made a daily appearance on nearly every broadcasted news report, although some might argue that the whole conflict is being blown up into something immensely bigger than it really is.

The GSA scandal is something different all in itself. The argument here is that they blew through taxpayers money to throw a bash in Las Vegas. Over $800,000 somehow went missing while in Vegas, which brings up another question mark when it comes to how responsible the GSA is.

The implications regarding this cartoon I believe are meant to show that with the elections shortly away, the scandals closely neighboring our White House could affect the outcome of the race. The reputation and credilbity of Obama could have easily been lost here, and it's hard to say what is to come out of this. His reelection is looking dimmer than ever.

I do not recall any other news.

  6. This cartoon implies that the President of the United States is under a lot of pressure. Not physical pressure but under political stress. The two torandos are representing stress and destruction on the White House. These two scandals caused a lot of trouble for the White House.
Other problems that have been causing issues for the White House. LIke economy and policital powers. Even the election are some problems for the White House. The scandal and other negative problems will have problems for the elections coming up. It'll be hard for President Obama to be re-elected because of these two scandals. These scandals are like a whirl wind around the White House and the election.

  7. Corruption with, in, and involving the Federal Government has always been an issue for America, and really any other country. The GSA scandal perfectly demonstrated such. With the employee's spending immense amounts of currency to fund their "meetings". This makes you inquire what else is happening behind the curtains.

As for the Secret Service scandal, of course it's never a great idea to start sleeping around when you're in the secret service. What does that say about our country? What does this say about our leader?

This political depiction is in no way vindictive, for the entire Obama Administration, or the federal government for that matter. If anything this entire case will most likely wreck any chance of Obama actually receiving his second term, a thanks in advance to the Media. Although this particular case is not a direct result of his actions, the truth is the President represents the government, and in turn he receives the blame.

  8. The implications are that Obama (and the rest of the White House) is dealing with many issues at this time. The "April showers" comment is talking about the smaller news stories. They once seemed important, but compared to the scandals, they seem to be more like water under the bridge. The two tornadoes signify, obviously, the Secret Service scandal, and the General Service's Administration scandal, both of which are major issues of discussion on national news. The tornadoes also represent the tornado season we are getting into, and how tornadoes are much more powerful and threatening than the April showers.

I can not think of one particular national news story involving governemnt. But there is always some news story revealing something about a government officials life. The scandals make us (Americans) more conscious and resentful of our government. Hopefully, Americans will put more thought into upcoming elections and what they want from their government leaders.

  9. The classic view of April is that there are small rain showers. Well lately the White House has been seeing much more then your average rainstorm.

The new storms that have been hitting the White House are the GSA and the Secret Service scandals. The president is currently trying to win another presidency, when his own personal guard fails to behave themselves in a foreign nation, it really isn't helping the government's image let alone his own.

Overall this will have a unique effect on his presidential campaign. While hardcore supporters will more then likely stay loyal, some people on the fence may change their views.

  10. The prostitution scandal and the GSA Las Vegas scandal have created quite the uproar in the news for obvious reasons. This Cartoon looks at other implications in the form of the upcoming elections. The misuse of government funds, and the shameful representation of our countries civil servants as well as its officials will be problematic for the re-election of Obama. It also means that the republican candidates will have a new issue to discuss during their primaries.
This is one of the bigger things that the Obama administration has had to deal with as far as things happening within our own borders.

  11. This political cartoon is saying that the government is undergoing a disastrous time. We, the American people are now facing a time when we distrust our government and not only distrust but a validated sense of distrust. One really depressing story is the one about Isabel and how she has gone missing. Another sad story is about the guy who broke into a house and assaulted and molested little girls. To make that story worse is that the drawing of the perpetrator looks so much like Raul that the police have been called on him which is just like an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The world is experiencing some bad times. I don't think that the two news stories that I added will have an effect on the presidential election but I do think that the secret service scandal and the G.S.A. scandal will have an effect. I bet that some people will say that Obama runs things poorly since there's so many scandals going on under him.

  12. The artist depicts in this cartoon the white house being swallowed up by two tornadoes. The tornadoes are to represent how the Secret Service prostitution scandal and the G.S.A. spending scandal are tarnishing the reputation of the white house. The white house is saying "I miss April showers" because as May rolls in, it becomes under attack even more. Another negative story that went national within the last month that isn't a scandal was the George Zimmerman/Trayvon story. I don't really think that these events will have much of an effect on this years elections, I feel the people who would actually read up on these stories are generally the more educated population and that the more educated people would already know that the U.S. government isn't as non-corrupt as they would like us to think.

  13. President Obama, as well as the rest of the White House staff, are caught up in two scandals: the Secret Service prostitution scandal, where SS members were caught spending government time and money on Brazilian prostitutes, and the GSA scandal, where GSA people were using government money to go party in Las Vegas. These two things may not have to do with Obama himself at all, but it doesn't mean that people aren't looking to see how he'll react.

At this point in the presidential race, where the main candidates have already been decided, all eyes are on Obama and Romney, but the majority of people are watching Obama. People are paying attention to how he reacts to these scandals, what he says or doesn't say, and what he does or doesn't do about them. It's also not just these two scandals, it's EVERYTHING. People are paying attention to Obama's reaction to the Celis case, various crimes around the country, small events... anything that could possibly happen, people are watching Obama to see what he does. People want to watch him mess up; say something he shouldn't. The people who are in his favor are hoping he doesn't do that. Nonetheless, even the tiniest sliver of news, and the reaction our president makes, can and will affect his re-election... or lack of it. I feel like I can relate to President Obama. It's the home stretch of the election, and all eyes are on him. If he messes up, he's sunk. The likelihood is that he won't, and things will go well for him, but there's always the possibility. We'll have to see how things fare for both myself and the President. I know that I'm kind of going off on a tangent, but this article really speaks to me. I feel all of the eyes. I'm sure he does too.

The point of this cartoon is quite clear; it's talking about how the many people in the White House have to deal with the scandals that are going on in their separate departments.

Everything that has happened in Tucson lately, like Isabel and the little girls that were molested the other day; and how they might be connected. As for the presidental elections it all depends on who comes and actually talks to the people who experienced these events, if they even come.

  15. I must begin by commending the artist for being so daring with this cartoon. The artist takes a risk here and boldly depicts the White House being tossed to and fro between two political problems. The first is the Secret Service Scandal and the second is the G.S.A. scandal.
The Secret Service Scandal has been ALL OVER the news. My parents had Fox News on one morning and what I remember hearing most was, "This is outrageously embarrassing for the United States Government." And to be quite frank, it IS. To find out that our Agents -- who have sworn to fight for this country and all it stands for -- are EXTREMELY poor ambassadors. We sent them to Brazil to do a job, and we find out that they spend their time in bars and sleeping with prostitutes. For the US that is HUGE. Our reputation in the world as of recently has not been very high, but NOW it's done for. The G.S.A. Scandal, is yet another example as to why our nation is "blushing." The Government is being accused of using our tax dollars to fund an EXTRAVAGANT meeting in Las Vegas. Many are infuriated, and rightly so. Shouldn't the money go to more important things like, perhaps, OUR DEBT PROBLEM?
In between the two tornadoes the White House levitates dangerously, waiting to plummet down to earth. The artist links the White House with Pres. Obama and ultimately the Democrats. The artist is point out that there are problems within our (Democratic) Government. With that said, it makes the citizens think MORE about the Presidential Election because with how the Democratic Gov. is struggling to stay afloat right now, one can only help but wonder how it will be if they remain there. This makes it difficult for Obama; how does someone recover from a blow like that?
I have been racking my memory as to other negative events, but I haven't been keeping up on the news lately so I don't know of any other scandals at the moment.
